Position Overview
Support the care, welfare and education of children and young people with additional support needs (ASN) in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and guidelines. A Learning Support Worker may be asked to work with any child or group of children within a department, within a mainstream class or within an early learning and childcare (ELC) setting. Work may involve individualised education programmes (IEP) and collaboration with teachers and other professionals such as Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Educational Psychologists and members of the Educational Outreach Service.
Responsibilities
- Work alongside teachers or under their specific guidance.
- Follow IEPs and cooperate with other professionals to provide tailored support.
- Manage work schedules across a department, mainstream class, or ELC setting.
- Ensure the welfare and education of children and young people with ASN.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Grade G
- Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) required upon start.
- Completion of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or an update prior to formal offer.
Conditions of Service
- Rate of pay includes Distant Islands Allowance of £1.5523 per hour.
- Temporary part‑time post: 25.0 hours per week, 39 weeks per year plus 6.24 weeks pro‑rata paid holiday to be taken during school holidays.
- Temporary contract for approximately 12 months.
- Relocation package does not apply to this post.
- Interview expenses will be paid within Shetland.
- Flexible working is possible.
