Main duties of the job

As a Registered Mental Health Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, holistic care within our inpatient environment.
You will:

  • Complete comprehensive assessments and develop, implement and review individualised care plans using Personalised Care Framework.
  • Promote recovery, independence, choice and positive risk-taking.
  • Undertake risk assessment and management, responding confidently to changing clinical needs and crisis situations.
  • Work collaboratively with patients, carers, families and our multidisciplinary team.
  • Make effective use of therapeutic interventions and resources available within the inpatient setting.
  • Support physical health and wellbeing alongside mental health recovery.
  • Work proactively with community teams and external agencies to promote continuity of care and seamless transitions from inpatient to community services.
  • Contribute to a positive, therapeutic and recovery-oriented unit environment.
  • Support and develop junior colleagues, sharing your knowledge and experience as part of a supportive team.

Job responsibilities

  • Clinical Responsibilities
  • Deliver high quality individualised and person centred care in partnership with patients carers and relevant multi agency professionals
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments including risk assessments and develop implement and regularly review care plans in collaboration with patients and the multidisciplinary team
  • Maintain accurate timely and comprehensive electronic clinical records in accordance with professional and organisational requirements
  • Safely administer and monitor medication in accordance with relevant legislation professional standards and organisational policies
  • Provide patients and carers with appropriate information education and support regarding medication treatment and health and wellbeing
  • Promote the involvement of carers and families in care planning and decision making where appropriate
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to changes in patients mental and physical health including the management of clinical risk and crisis situations
  • Practice in accordance with the NMC Code Mental Health Act relevant legislation and Livewell Southwest policies and procedures
  • Promote recovery focused trauma informed and person centred approaches to care supporting patients to maximise independence and achieve their individual goals
  • Managerial and Leadership Responsibilities
  • Act as Nurse in Charge of the clinical area when required providing effective leadership and oversight of the shift
  • Plan and coordinate daily clinical activity ensuring that patient care needs are safely and effectively managed
  • Respond appropriately to staffing challenges including sickness absence deployment of staff and adjustments to the rota while maintaining safe staffing levels
  • Provide supervision support and professional guidance to junior and less experienced staff
  • Participate in staff appraisals and contribute to the identification of learning and development needs
  • Promote a positive team culture that supports effective communication collaboration learning and continuous improvement
