We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Financial Accountant (Fixed Assets) to join our Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified or finalist accountant with extensive fixed asset accounting experience to play a key role in supporting the Group's financial reporting and asset management activities.

Reporting to the Group Financial Accountant, you will lead on the accounting and management of the Group's property and fixed asset registers, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and robust financial controls. You will also support the production of Group Financial Statements, statutory accounts, and financial reporting requirements for subsidiary and joint venture entities.

This role is ideal for an experienced finance professional who is already operating at a senior level and has a strong track record of delivering fixed asset accounting services within a large and complex organisation.

Working Pattern:

This is an agile role based at our Liverpool office, with occasional travel across our operating area in line with business needs. To ensure a smooth handover and onboarding experience, you'll initially be office-based for around four days a week. Following this period, you'll move to our usual agile working pattern of two days per week in the office, including a mandatory Tuesday.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead the accounting and management of the Group's property and fixed asset registers, ensuring accurate and robust financial records.
  • Oversee key capital accounting activities, including acquisitions, disposals, depreciation, component accounting and grant accounting.
  • Produce timely management accounting information and reporting to support the Group's capital investment activities.
  • Play a key role in the preparation of the Group Financial Statements and year-end statutory reporting process.
  • Prepare statutory accounts and supporting disclosures for subsidiary companies and joint venture entities.
  • Lead on the accounting and financial reporting requirements for the Group's joint ventures and partnership arrangements.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records, balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules, ensuring strong financial control across capital activities.
  • Provide information and returns to Homes England and other regulatory bodies, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure fixed assets, subsidiaries and joint ventures are accounted for in line with relevant accounting standards and Group policies.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, subsidiary accountants, external auditors and professional advisers to deliver high-quality financial reporting.
  • Provide clear financial insight, advice and support to colleagues across the business.
  • Support the continuous improvement of financial systems, processes and controls, helping to drive efficiency, value for money and service excellence.

What we're looking for:

  • A part-qualified finalist or fully qualified accountancy qualification, such as ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and a sound understanding of accounting standards and best practice.
  • Significant experience delivering a fixed asset accounting service and managing complex asset portfolios.
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts and supporting high-quality financial reporting.
  • Proven experience working within a large and complex organisation.
  • The ability to develop and improve finance processes, controls and reporting.
  • Knowledge of housing property accounting, component accounting, joint ventures or group structures would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to provide financial insight and advice to stakeholders.
  • Experience working within a robust governance and compliance framework, with a strong understanding of risk and financial controls.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across the business and with external partners.
  • A proactive, adaptable approach, with a focus on continuous improvement and delivering excellent outcomes.
  • Strong IT skills, high levels of personal accountability, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview on Tuesday 3rd November at our Liverpool city centre office. The interview will be competency-based, giving you the opportunity to share examples from your previous experience and demonstrate how your skills align with the role.
