This is a permanent role, up to full-time. It suits an experienced governance professional who wants to play a key part at an exciting time as we establish a new charity. What you’ll be doing

  • · Lead on all matters relating to governance across the Angling Trust, Fish Legal and the Fisheries Conservation Trust group.
  • · Maintain compliance with the Code for Sports Governance, the Charity Governance Code and other relevant frameworks.
  • · Own organisational risk management, including maintaining risk registers and leading periodic reviews.

  • · Work with colleagues across the group to influence a culture of good governance.
  • · Act as Company Secretary.

Who you are

  • · You are a governance professional with experience of working within prescribed governance frameworks.
  • · You are personable and flexible, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • · You have a ‘can do’ attitude and enjoy a challenge.
  • · You are self-motivated and organised, able to manage a varied workload, pivot with changing priorities and work well independently.
  • · You take ownership of your continuous professional development, with support and mentoring available.

What will make you stand out

  • · Proven track record of implementing the Code for Sports Governance or the Charity Governance Code.
  • · A recognised governance qualification.
  • · Experience working across organisations and teams to facilitate continuous improvement and change.
  • · Experience working with boards and committees.
  • · Line management experience in a hybrid working environment.

Who we are

The Angling Trust is the national governing body in England representing fishing—one of the country’s largest participation sports. We are a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to protect, promote and develop our sport. We care deeply about the environments in which we fish and are committed to creating opportunities for all within society to experience fishing in a healthy aquatic world.

Fish Legal is a separate membership association that uses the law to protect the rights of its members throughout the UK, while fighting pollution, damage and other threats to the water environment.

The Fisheries Conservation Trust is a newly established charity, created to maximise our impact in the charitable areas of our work.

Together we fight for fish, fishing and the aquatic environment.

Want to join us?

We believe a diversity of backgrounds, experience and opinions builds the strongest team, so we encourage people from under-represented groups to apply. We are members of the Sporting Equals Charter and are actively participating in the Sport England sponsored Inclusive Employers development programme.

Please only apply if you have the right to work in the UK and are able to travel to meetings in London several times a year.
