One-Year Fixed Term Contract – 22.5 hours per week
York Carers Centre is an independent charity supporting unpaid carers in York. We are looking for a highly motivated and organised individual to join our friendly dedicated team, helping unpaid carers to maintain their health and wellbeing through the provision of information, advice and support.
You will need to have a working knowledge of Carers Rights, Benefit Entitlements and health and disability issues; have experience of advising and supporting service users from vulnerable groups; and understand maximising income for families. You will also need the skills to apply for charitable grants and hardship funds to decrease the need for crisis financial intervention.
We are looking for a passionate and skilled advisor to maximise carers income and support them to reduce their outgoings. The postholder will be required to deliver information, advice and support through telephone calls and outreach appointments including home visits.
The role will involve flexible/hybrid working travelling to and working from a range of outreach venues in the York area and will involve participating in a weekly evening telephone Advice Line for carers on a rota basis.
If you are empathetic and compassionate with excellent communication and engagement skills, have experience of advocating on behalf of vulnerable individuals and have knowledge of the voluntary and statutory services, then we’d love to hear from you.
In return we’ll offer you:
- The opportunity to make a notable contribution to our work in making a difference to the lives of carers in York
- A friendly supportive working environment
- Great flexible hybrid working options
- Learning and development opportunities
- Contributory pension scheme
The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
