Overview
We are seeking to recruit a Consultant / Specialist doctor with specialist skills in integrated sexual health (including outpatient HIV clinics, management of sexually transmitted infection & contraception). The appointee will contribute in the Clinical Governance programme within the wider axess sexual health service and will have the opportunity to participate in research supported by our research lead and dedicated research nurse depending on individual experience and interest. Less than full time working (LFTW) and timetable flexibility are available.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the Clinical Governance programme within the axess sexual health service.
- Participate in research supported by the research lead and dedicated research nurse, dependent on experience and interest.
- Provide clinical services in integrated sexual health, including outpatient HIV clinics, management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and contraception.
- Lead and participate in audit within the team, and motivate and supervise a multidisciplinary team.
- Organise and prioritise workload and delegate responsibilities where appropriate; work sensitively within teams.
- Engage in teaching or specified training as appropriate (e.g., sexual health education, clinical supervision).
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Clinical experience in management of sexually transmitted infections and contraception.
- Understanding of the clinician\βs role in management and patient care.
- Basic Medical Qualification registrable in the UK.
- MRCP or equivalent.
- Evidence-based practice.
- Significant sexual health clinical experience at a senior clinician level.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Clinical experience in other aspects of women\βs sexual health (e.g., vulval disease, psychosexual counselling).
- Knowledge and principles of resource and budget management.
- Awareness of NHS core values in its modern structure.
- GMC Specialist registration for GU Medicine (via CCT, CESR, or European Community rights).
- Letters of competence in IUD/IUS; MFSRH; letters of competence in sub-dermal implants; Diploma in HIV Medicine.
- Research/publications in sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS/Contraception/Reproductive Health or related Sexual Health fields.
- Teaching qualification appropriate to sexual health (e.g., Faculty registered trainer, STIF trainer).
- Higher degree (e.g., MSc, MD/PhD).
- Diploma in GU Medicine.
- Management Training.
- You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
About Axess and Role Details
Axess Sexual Health Liverpool is the largest Sexual Health service provider in Cheshire & Merseyside. Axess has a total annual attendance of approximately 83,000 patient contacts per year. The service is open 6 days a week and provides open access sexual health clinics. There are specialist clinics available for Young People, HIV, PrEP, MSM, Trans and non-binary people, LARC clinics, Complex contraception (including ultrasound), Genital Dermatology and Sexual Problems Service.
This post is a locum (fixed term) to cover colleague absence with an initial 6 month term. The appointment will be a full-time (10 PA) Consultant / Senior Specialist doctor in Sexual Health, Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with office accommodation provided at axess Macclesfield [Macclesfield District General Hospital site] and axess Crewe [Eagle Bridge Health and Wellbeing Centre]. Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comprises Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital & Royal Liverpool University Hospital. We are part of NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, formed on 1 Nov 2024 from the coming together of LUHFT and Liverpool Womenβs NHS Foundation Trust. The Group aims to improve the care we provide our patients.
Note: Under current Home Office Immigration Rules we are currently unable to offer right to work visa sponsorship for Band 2 and 3 roles with a salary of less than Β£25,000 pa as these do not meet UK Visas & Immigration criteria.
