Overview
Liverpool University Hospitals are seeking to recruit an Assistant Domestic Manager for our Royal Liverpool Hospital site. The Domestic team at LUHFT are a team that make a difference, so we are looking for passionate and highly motivated people to join our busy team.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate staff wellbeing and absence for the domestic team; act as the central point of contact for staff reporting sickness; manage sensitive information; record absence data; liaise with payroll, occupational health and other departments; create and deliver sickness reports.
- Support managers in managing sickness absence and ensure appropriate staffing levels by roster coordination.
- Provide administrative support including word processing, updating spreadsheets and databases, and using software packages; interrogate systems as required; maintain excellent IT skills and Excel capabilities.
- Ensure cleaning services are delivered in line with National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025 and the Trust’s required standards.
- Be a key member of the Domestics Management Team, working with Estates and Facilities and the wider Trust.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle information sensitively; communicate clearly and compassionately with staff off sick; assist with return-to-work processes.
- Carry out general administrative tasks for the Domestic Department (filing, updating rotas, coordinating cover).
- Conduct regular Supervisor 1-1 meetings to support two-way communication and cascade the Trust’s aims to Domestic staff.
- Assist with Health and Safety compliance, including risk assessments and standard operating procedures.
- Assist the Domestic Services Manager with day-to-day service management and perform any other duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience within a healthcare environment is beneficial.
- Excellent IT skills, including the ability to create and maintain Excel spreadsheets and to interrogate systems as required.
- Flexibility to work occasional late finishes, weekends and bank holidays due to the size and nature of the department.

Be the first point of contact for all sickness absence reporting within the Domestic Services team. Accurately record staff sickness absence in line with NHS policies, procedures, and data protection requirements. Monitor absence levels, maintain up-to-date records, and identify any patterns or areas of concern. Liaise with Domestic Services Supervisors and Managers to ensure timely return-to-work meetings are arranged and documented. Support line managers in applying the Trust’s sickness absence policy, including escalation when trigger points are reached. Arrange occupational health referrals and support staff with access to wellbeing resources where appropriate. Produce regular absence reports for the Domestic Services Manager and HR department and attend sickness and wellbeing meetings. Maintain confidentiality and handle all information sensitively and professionally. Communicate clearly and compassionately with staff who are off sick, providing advice on reporting procedures and return-to-work processes. Carry out general administrative tasks in relation to the Domestic Department, such as filing, updating rotas, and coordinating cover where needed. Carry out regular Supervisor 1-1 meetings to assist in effective two-way communication and to communicate the Trust’s aims and objectives to Supervisors to cascade to Domestic staff. Ensure Health and Safety compliance including conducting meetings and documentation of Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures. To assist the Domestic services manager with the day-to-day management of the service. Any other duties as required.
