Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our School of Education which has a long and proud history in teacher education, a reputation for outstanding graduates and Early Career Teachers, and an enviable network of committed partner schools and other key stakeholders. You will be appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Primary Initial Teacher Education: Programme Lead for BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS.

The School of Education at LJMU is renowned for the quality and strength of its undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, along with a growing reputation for international partnerships and collaborative research. Student numbers on QTS programmes total between 500-600 per year. Student experience is at the heart of everything we do. The quality of our ITE Programmes and the development of socially engaged teachers - delivered through a team of committed and forward-thinking academic teams, is recognised by Ofsted and in the wider community.

In this role, you will work alongside the Head of Primary Programmes to lead the BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS programme, providing academic oversight and programme leadership, playing a central role in shaping its direction and impact. You will lead curriculum development across the programme, ensuring a clear and coherent curriculum intent that is realised through effective practice and strong outcomes for student teachers and the pupils they will go on to teach.

You will also contribute to the planning, design and development of modules and programmes and curriculum changes (including adaptations resulting from DfE mandated frameworks) to deliver a range of high-quality teaching materials and associated student assessment activities. Through oversight of academic standards, quality assurance and evaluation, you will drive continuous improvement and ensure the quality of education remains strong, relevant and responsive.

You will also lead on recruitment and admissions activity for the programme, supporting the selection and retention of high-quality student teachers. This will include contributing to outreach and engagement activity that reflects LJMU’s commitment to inclusivity, widening participation and social mobility.

As a key member of the Initial Teacher Education team, you will make a significant contribution to collective leadership and partnership working. You will support and develop colleagues, model professional behaviours and work closely with school partners to strengthen practice, consistency and impact across ITE provision, in line with LJMU’s values as a civic university.

You will hold a relevant undergraduate degree with QTS, or PGCE (QTS) with a track record of successful teaching in a primary school, along with experience teaching and leading at undergraduate level and above - or delivering equivalent relevant professional training and development. We are seeking an individual with excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrable ability to operate effectively in a demanding environment, which has both academic and professional practice requirements and compliance demands, including internal and external auditing and inspection.

Evidence-based teaching and engagement in real-world research activity sets our team apart and we will be seeking this in our new appointment, along with the ability and attitude to inspire and collaborate for outstanding experience and outcomes for our students. This is your opportunity to be a key contributor to providing a high quality, exceptional and transformative educational experience for new teachers, and to be part of our continued development.

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies. This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.

If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.
