We're looking for a Principal Lecturer in Civil Engineering with the expertise, credibility and vision to lead and develop a diverse and ambitious portfolio of undergraduate, postgraduate and degree apprenticeship programmes. You will bring a strong track record of teaching, research and academic leadership within higher education, together with a passion for delivering an outstanding student experience. You will have the knowledge and professional standing to drive curriculum innovation, enhance academic quality and support the development of future Civil Engineering professionals.
You will demonstrate the leadership qualities required to manage a team of academic colleagues and oversee a complex portfolio of programmes, inspiring excellence across teaching, research and knowledge exchange activities. Reporting to the Subject Leader for Civil and Mechanical Engineering, you will lead the delivery and ongoing development of your portfolio, ensuring that programmes remain academically rigorous, professionally relevant and responsive to the evolving needs of industry, employers and professional regulators.
Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to build productive relationships across the University and with external partners, professional bodies and employer stakeholders. Most importantly, you'll share our ambition to strengthen the School's reputation for excellence in education, research and external engagement.
As a member of the School Management Team, you will contribute to the strategic leadership of the School, support the growth of research, enterprise and external income activities, and help foster a collaborative and inclusive culture in which staff and students can thrive. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in shaping the future direction of Civil Engineering at LJMU and to make a lasting impact on student outcomes, staff development and engagement with industry and the wider profession.
