An opportunity has arisen in the central Safety, Health and Environment Department at Liverpool John Moores University for an Event Safety Coordinator. There are between 1000 and 1200 events on university premises each year, varying in size from small meetings to larger gatherings with external visitors, or events run by external organisations. The role will affect any Professional Service or Faculty that is planning to hold events on university premises.
Responsibilities
- Event safety will be the primary responsibility of this position; as such it will be the custodian of the health and safety elements of the event management process.
- Working collaboratively with other colleagues, you will have an important part to play in the planning, setting up, execution and review of events for the benefit of the university community and our visitors.
- The role will be crucial in helping the university discharge its responsibilities under Martyn's Law (Terrorism Protection of Premises Act 2025) and its recent Guidance, as well as focusing on arrangements for fire safety and first aid at events.
- You will have the responsibility for horizon-scanning, reviewing, updating, and consulting on policy.
Qualifications & Personal Attributes
- Credibility: you will be expected to attend Faculty and Professional Services Management meetings, deliver training, deliver presentations to a senior level within the organisation and have a level of gravitas in your approach.
- Resilience: there will inevitably be occasions where event requests will be turned down, and decisions may be challenged by colleagues in senior positions. With support from the Director, Safety, Health and Environment, the post-holder needs to be confident in their decision-making.
