Overview

Job Summary: The candidate will lead the development, implementation and evaluation of an LJMU based physical activity and exercise clinic for individuals with long‑term health conditions. The candidate will work closely with academics within the Research Institute for Sport and exercises sciences to deliver this student supported clinic. The candidate will explore in collaboration with our clinical healthcare partners new funding opportunities for more clinical exercise service provision.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day‑to‑day implementation of the clinic/service
  • Supervise and direct the service delivery of the clinic by students or employed staff
  • Conduct and interpret physiological and psychological specific assessments
  • Prescribe and deliver physical activity and exercise interventions for individuals with long‑term conditions and provide support throughout the intervention to patients and students
  • Devise and implement an evaluation process to ensure the clinic/service is meeting the key performance indicators required
  • Assisting with any financial administration associated with the clinic/service
  • Liaising with researchers, both internally and externally, and collaborating to execute research deliverables
  • Identify and contribute to the process of securing funds for clinical exercise provision for long‑term conditions
  • Identify learning needs of students and define appropriate learning objectives
  • Contribute to assessing the work and progress of students and provide timely and constructive feedback
  • Supervise and provide support and guidance for work based learning and placement activities
  • Contribute to module/programme development and curriculum review

Teaching and Learning

  • Continually update knowledge and understanding in Clinical Exercise Physiology
  • Translate knowledge of advances in the Clinical Exercise Physiology into delivery of clinic/service
  • Conduct individual and/or collaborative research projects
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop knowledge exchange activities establishing research and educational links with industry to influence public policy and the professions

Research and Scholarship

  • Plan and manage delivery of the clinic/service
  • Perform appropriate administrative tasks associated with teaching and scholarship activities
  • Contribute to the accreditation of courses, quality assurance and enhancement processes

Leadership and Management

  • Contribute to a supportive working environment and develop productive working relationships with other team members
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings
  • Contribute to wider school/university activities e.g. open days, student welcome, graduation and clearing events
  • Build internal and external links to enhance own teaching and learning activity
  • Participate in institutional widening participation and outreach activities
  • Act as an ambassador for the University in all interactions with current and prospective students, staff, visitors to the University, external partners, media and general public

Qualifications

  • Honours degree (1st or 2:1) in Sport and Exercise Science (or Application related subject)
  • Master’s degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology (or relevant related Application subject)
  • AHCS Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist or evidence of Application suitability to apply for AHCS registration
  • 2‑3 years’ experience of providing exercise/physical activity application prescription, delivery and behaviour change strategies to individuals with long‑term conditions
  • 2‑3 years’ experience of providing behaviour change strategies to individuals with long‑term conditions
  • 2‑3 years’ experience of fitness and functional assessment in individuals with long‑term conditions
  • Ability to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise students, and supervise students in applied clinical form/interview
  • Excellent operational skills indicative of ability to work independently and as part of a research team
  • Excellent inter‑personal skills indicative of ability to engage enthusiastically with new challenges, teamwork, problem solving and ability to work with a wide variety of people in challenging situations
  • Experience of structuring patient care from clinical, minimum requirements evidence PhD in relevant discipline
  • Capacity to design and lead exercise and PA studies
  • Demonstrate research project management skills
  • Experience of recruiting participants with long‑term conditions
  • Experience of quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis
  • Previous academic publications and conference communications
  • Experience of teaching/delivering content in exercise physiology
  • Experience of using mobile health technologies to support and manage exercise/physical activity
  • Experience of evaluating service delivery or interventions, including analysis of outcome/impact data

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: £38,784 – £46,049 per annum
  • Financial benefits: Competitive salaries based on a low contractual 35 hour working week. 17.5% employer contributions to pensions for non‑academic staff enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). 28.68% employer contribution to pensions for teaching staff enrolled into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS).
