We are now looking for a Research Assistant to play a key role in delivering a research project within the department. The project investigates the impact of sediment on flow measurements and weir operation, with a particular focus on identifying and quantifying associated uncertainties to provide initial findings and recommendations for British Standards Institute (BSI).

The role will involve:

  • Conducting laboratory experiments
  • Participating in field visits
  • Conducting interviews
  • Carrying out desk-based studies to collect, analyse, and interpret data
  • Report writing and documenting research findings

In addition, you will support the preparation and delivery of presentations for internal and external audiences, including academic and industry partners. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on research experience and contribute to meaningful projects that advance knowledge and innovation in the field of civil engineering.

You will have a master or PhD degree in Civil Engineering in the field of Environmental Engineering, Hydraulics or Water Resources. Experience conducting laboratory and/or field-based research; strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and data quality.
