KFCA are recruiting for a Community Allotment Coordinator for the growing space behind our community centre. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated person who can focus on maximising the impact of the allotment and really bring it to life with lots of regular activity for adults and children.

The role will be responsible for:

  • engaging the community
  • delivering regular growing sessions in the allotment for families & children
  • supporting our Monday allotment volunteers group
  • delivering ‘plot to plate’ cooking activities with seasonal produce
  • raising awareness about the benefits of growing food in our local community
  • overseeing the management of the allotment – raised beds, polytunnels, tools, composting system

The person we are seeking will:

  • be experienced in successfully growing food - either in their own allotment or an established community allotment setting
  • be experienced in all aspects of community engagement, including reaching diverse and marginalised communities
  • demonstrate a real commitment to Equality, Diversion & Inclusion
  • have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • have good IT skills
  • be confident, kind, and friendly
  • have an excellent understanding of risk assessments and health & safety
  • have a track record of positive partnership working (schools & colleges, faith groups, other community organisations, local authority)
  • be physically fit and be able to dig and lift bags of soil & tools/garden equipment
  • be able to complete a clear enhanced DBS check
  • have a qualification in horticulture (desirable but not essential)
  • be an advocate for the environment, biodiversity and the benefits of good food & growing for physical and mental health

It is a fixed term contract for 12 months while we seek ongoing funding to continue the role. The salary will be pro rata.
