An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join our team of Cardiac Physiologists. The applicant must be competent to perform the full range of cardiac diagnostic tests and have extensive experience in Cardiac rhythm management. The successful candidate will join our team of specialist physiologists leading device follow-up clinics and working independently across all areas of device implants.
Suitable candidates must possess either a Degree in Clinical Physiology, or BTEC / HTEC in MPPM or equivalent. BHRS accreditation is essential for the band 7 post and the successful candidates will be expected to work towards the IBHRE qualification in device therapy. Voluntary Registration to AHCS is essential.
The suitable applicant should have the ability to work under pressure and be able to prioritise their individual workload, as well as being able to work effectively within a team and support the development of junior staff.
Main duties of the job include:
- Providing specialised technical expertise to pacing and ICD implant and follow-up.
- Working as lead physiologist in device clinics, working independently within device implants and extractions.
- Competent within all areas of cardiac physiology including Cath lab and non-invasive.
- Participating in on-call rota.

Job responsibilities include:
- Performing highly specialised diagnostic cardiac physiological testing on patients to aid clinical diagnosis without supervision.
- Demonstrating empathy when dealing with patients in distressing conditions.
- Independently interpreting results and providing factual reports for highly specialised diagnostic cardiac investigations.
- Performing necessary adjustments to devices which directly affect patients' clinical outcomes.
- Communicating effectively and advising clinical and non-clinical staff regarding outcomes of diagnostic investigations.
- Participating on a roster basis, including on-call, in all areas of technical cardiology.
- Undertaking supervision and training for clinical staff, trainee Cardiac physiologists and other allied health professionals.
- Assisting the lead physiologist in implementing departmental strategies to ensure continuing development of patient-focused services.
- Ensuring that individual own level of practice is kept up to date.
- Demonstrating active participation in clinical audit and R&D activities.
- Working throughout a number of areas recognising all aspects of infection control measures needed for each specific clinical area.
- Ensuring all appropriate health and safety measures are taken when dealing with patients' body fluids.
Person Specification:
- BSc Clinical Physiology
- ONC BTEC MPPM or Equivalent
- HNC HTEC MPPM or Equivalent
- Voluntary Registered with AHCS

- Proven experience and competencies in all areas of Cardiac physiology (Device implant, follow-up, Cath lab and Non-invasive testing).
- Evidence of substantial experience working at Band 6 level.
- Experience of delivering training and educational programmes.
