We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join our Liverpool FC team as a YDP Goalkeeper Coach. You will be responsible for implementing effective position-specific development programs for all goalkeepers of two YDP teams (U14 and U13), designing and delivering training sessions throughout the week, and coaching goalkeepers on match days.

What will you be doing?

  • Coaching and Player Development: Plan and deliver age-appropriate training sessions aligned with the club’s goalkeeper curriculum, support goalkeepers during team training sessions, ensuring integration into tactical drills and attend matches to provide hands-on support, including warm-ups, tactical briefings, and in-game feedback.
  • Individual Development Plans (IDPs): Create and maintain IDPs for the respective goalkeepers, updating them quarterly based on performance and progression, conduct mid-year and end-of-year reviews with players and parents, providing comprehensive feedback on strengths, areas for improvement, and next steps.
  • Talent Identification and Recruitment: Support the U16 to Pre-Academy Goalkeeping Lead and recruiting staff with identifying potential goalkeepers, participate in talent identification events, such as goalkeeper camps or recruitment sessions, and provide input on trialist evaluations.
  • Performance Monitoring and Analysis: Use video analysis tools to review matches and training sessions, clip footage to illustrate key learning points for players, help delivering regular analysis workshops and track training/match performance ratings and contribute to building a database of goalkeeper metrics.
  • Parent Engagement: Act as point of contact for parents, provide regular updates and formal reviews if required, maintain open lines of communication to address questions, concerns, or feedback from parents and other stakeholders.
  • Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate training schedules, attendance records, and match reports for goalkeepers. Use provided platforms to record development progress and profile related data. Support the writing process of the club’s goalkeeper curriculum.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Foster strong relationships with head coaches, goalkeepers and other goalkeeper coaches, providing consistent feedback, mentorship, and support both on and off the field. Work with the Academy’s multi-disciplinary support team to provide holistic support and to contribute to the health, fitness and wellbeing of the goalkeepers.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of the latest coaching methodologies, sports science research, and technological advancements relevant to individual player development. Contribute to the development and implementation of new coaching tools and techniques to enhance player performance and well-being.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Serve as a role model and mentor for goalkeepers, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment. Inspire and motivate goalkeepers to reach their full potential through effective communication, encouragement, and guidance.

Who are we looking for?

To be successful in this role, you will be a dynamic and enthusiastic goalkeeping coach with a fun, energetic coaching style and a proven ability to inspire and develop young players while upholding high standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong organisational and administrative skills, enabling them to manage schedules, registers, and reporting efficiently. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities are essential for engaging effectively with players, parents, and staff. A forward-thinking, adaptable approach to coaching, with a commitment to continuous improvement, is key. Proficiency in video analysis tools and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is required. Candidates must be familiar with and act in accordance with EPPP and Youth Development Rules, maintaining relevant qualifications and engaging in ongoing professional development. The role requires proven, recent experience of coaching goalkeepers in an academy setting, particularly at U16 to Pre-Academy level, with a track record of evidence-based success in preparing players for progression into the PDP and professional phases.

Essential Qualifications:

  • UEFA Goalkeeping B License
  • UEFA B License
  • FA Safeguarding and First Aid certifications.
  • FA Youth Award (Desirable)
