We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join our Liverpool FC, in-house Legal team. We're looking for an individual with expert commercial employment lawyer to provide pragmatic, timely advice across the Club, helping to ensure our people practices, decision making and policies comply with employment legislation, data protection requirements and international employment standards.
In this high volume, fast paced environment, you will report to the Vice President, Legal and partner closely with the People & Culture team, offering hands on case management and proactive legal insight to minimise risk and strengthen internal capability.
You will be expected to handle complex ER casework, DSARs, contractual queries and global employment issues.
What will you be doing?
- Employment Law Advise
- Provide expert, commercially focused employment law advice to leaders and People & Culture teams and business leaders.
- Advise across all areas of UK employment law.
- Monitor developments in employment legislation and ensure the Club remains compliant and future‑ready.
- Produce clear legal guidance, risk assessments and recommended options.
- Complex Case Management
- Lead ER cases.
- Guide the ER Manager and People team.
- Coach managers and People Partners on case strategy and risk management.
- Data Protection & DSARs
- Lead all employment‑related DSAR responses in partnership with People Services and Data Protection teams.
- Advise on GDPR compliance in investigations, suspensions and information sharing.
- Recommend process improvements to reduce risk and improve efficiency.
- Contracts, Policies & Governance
- Draft and review employment contracts, senior agreements, and people policies.
- Ensure policies are legally compliant and aligned with Club culture.
- Support global/overseas contract implementation and compliance.
- Global & Overseas Employment Support
- Provide employment law advice for international hires, assignments and cross‑border working.
- Ensure alignment with local labour laws and global mobility requirements.
- Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
- Build strong partnerships across Legal, People & Culture, Safeguarding, Finance and operational teams.
- Manage relationships with external legal advisers to ensure quality and cost control.
- Capability Building & Continuous Improvement
- Deliver training on employment law, ER processes, DSARs and governance.
- Embed strong legal reasoning across people processes to reduce risk.
- Promote consistent, transparent and fair decision‑making across the Club.

- Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) with minimum 5 years' PQE in employment law.
- Current practicing certificate (SRA) with up-to-date CPD.
- Strong background in high risk, complex employee relations and Employment Tribunal litigation.
- Experience working in fast paced, high profile or highly regulated environments (e.g. sport, media, large corporates).
- Demonstrable experience handling DSARs, GDPR related issues and data heavy case management.
- Confident in drafting and negotiating employment contracts, policies, settlement agreements and international terms.
Desirable Experience
- Experience advising on overseas employment matters or global mobility.
- Experience of working in house.
- Experience of commercial legal work.
