We are looking for a Regional Identity Writer to join us at the Liverpool Echo. This role exists to source and tell stories that resonate with a Liverpool City Region audience and are published across multiple platforms. We’re looking for a multi‑platform storyteller who can spot the moments that matter, stir emotions and make people smile. In this role, you’ll uncover and craft audience‑first stories that truly resonate across Merseyside—creating impactful content in text, video, audio/podcasts, social and live updates. You’ll tailor every piece for web, app, socials, newsletters and streaming so more people can find it, engage with it and respond—amplifying our positive impact across the region.
If you are a curious, community‑mindful and experienced reporter with a deep understanding of the Liverpool City Region, we want to hear from you! This role is based in our Liverpool city centre Hub and we are therefore open to candidates based in and around Liverpool.
What will the role involve?
- Source and tell stories that resonate with a Liverpool City Region audience, engaging as many people as possible and building communities both online and in real life to share published stories and engage readers in meaningful conversations.
- Tell stories in multiple formats, including real‑time live blogs, articles, video, audio and pictures, ensuring every piece of content is thoroughly researched, balanced and in line with the IPSO Code.
- Pitch data‑led story ideas to grow performance metrics (for example, page views and revenue).
- Utilise AI tools, in line with company policies, to optimise content creation, improve accuracy and efficiency, and deliver engaging articles that resonate with our audience.
- Create engaging affiliate content that aligns with the brand and guidelines, driving traffic to partner sites and generating revenue through affiliate strategies; research product features, understand target audiences and craft compelling content that encourages click‑throughs and conversions.
- Consider the role of audio and video for every story, capturing or curating basic footage where appropriate to engage our audiences.
Who are we looking for?
- An experienced NCTJ qualified reporter with up‑to‑date UK media law knowledge and ideally with 100 wpm shorthand (or working toward this).
- A proven track record of writing Liverpool‑focused digital news content in a fast‑paced newsroom environment.
- Demonstrable experience working with a CMS, shooting video, taking pictures and utilising social media to boost your content.
- Expertise on all things Liverpool City Region and ideally a full UK driving licence to cover stories across Merseyside with ease.
- A passionate reporter and team player who can meet deadlines and understands the importance of pageviews and revenue generation.
