We are looking for an experienced Content Editor to join us at the Liverpool Echo. This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior journalist or an experienced content editor to take the next step in their journalism career.
About the role
Based in our Liverpool city centre Hub, you will support a team of reporters to deliver high‑quality content across words, pictures, video, data and interactive elements. You will manage the publishing of fresh, engaging, accurate and legally‑sound news and lifestyle content, and coordinate live coverage – launching and maintaining live blogs for breaking stories to keep readers engaged. You will act as a hands‑on people manager, inspiring your team to pitch and write great stories. You will oversee our websites and social media channels, helping to develop and execute our social strategy, and drive Customer Value by focusing on newsletters and audience loyalty. The role operates on a rota basis including evenings and weekends, requiring a flexible approach.
What we’re looking for
- Senior journalist with a Senior NCTJ/NQJ Level 6 journalism qualification or equivalent, and extensive UK media law knowledge.
- Proven track record of writing and editing digital news content in a fast‑paced newsroom.
- First‑class writing and storytelling skills with a deep understanding of our news brands and audience engagement strategies.
- Strong grasp of SEO, search, social and digital audience behaviour.
- Social media savvy and experience using platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram and TikTok.
- Prior people‑management experience or strong motivation to step into a management role, with excellent communication, motivation and people skills.
- Excellent local knowledge of Liverpool and surrounding areas to inform content decisions.
