Overview

TAs work with and care for children of all ages. They play an integral part in pupils’ well-being, ensuring pupils thrive in a positive environment. TAs will be offered a personalised pathway to develop in up to two specialist areas: Special Educational Needs and Disability, Early Years, Behaviour, English as an Additional Language and Assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting students to accomplish their daily goals in a variety of subjects.
  • Work with teachers to understand and support assessment.
  • Develop effective and informed practice.
  • Safeguard and promote the health, safety and welfare of children.
  • Develop strategies for support, apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA\\\’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up-to-date technology safely to support learning and encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training and Qualifications

  • You will be offered off-the-job training, which is a blended model of learning including coursework, training and shadowing.
  • You will be entitled to around six hours per week to do this.
  • On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be awarded the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship.
  • You can then move onto a higher-level Teaching Assistant qualification (HLTA) and a postgraduate teaching qualification; it is up to you what you do when you have finished your apprenticeship.
  • There may be an opportunity to stay on at the same company and progress to the next level of qualification, High Level Teaching Assistant.
  • Alternatively, you may want to look for a new job or other professional development opportunity.
  • GCSE or equivalent in English Language (grade 4/C) and Maths (grade 4/C).
  • Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
