Role Description

The Residential Workers Edge of Care role is a full-time, on‑site position based in Liverpool, supporting children, young people, and families at risk of entering care.

Day‑to‑day tasks include providing practical and emotional support in the home, helping families to develop positive routines, and promoting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

The role involves working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, contributing to assessments, care plans, and reviews, and maintaining accurate records in line with policies and procedures.

Residential Workers may facilitate group activities, accompany children and young people to appointments or school, and liaise with schools, health professionals, and other agencies to reduce the need for care placements.

The post requires flexible working, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of families and provide responsive support.

Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with children, young people, and families in residential, community, or social care settings, with a focus on safeguarding and early help.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build trust, de‑escalate challenging situations, and work sensitively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Good planning, record‑keeping, and organisational abilities, including contributing to assessments, care plans, reviews, and ensuring accurate, timely documentation.
  • Understanding of child development, trauma‑informed practice, and relevant legislation and guidance related to children’s social care and safeguarding.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi‑disciplinary team, collaborate with partner agencies, and use initiative while following agreed procedures and professional boundaries.
  • Resilience and emotional maturity, with the ability to manage demanding situations, maintain professional conduct, and reflect on practice with supervision and training.
  • Basic IT skills for case recording and communication, and willingness to learn new systems and approaches to practice.
  • Relevant qualification in social care, youth work, childcare, or a related field (or equivalent experience), with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and meet any local travel requirements within Liverpool.
