Live Wire is seeking a Freelance Simulation Technician to join our team and help deliver outstanding driver training experiences and exceptional customer service for our motorsport clients worldwide. In this role, you’ll be responsible for guiding and supporting drivers through simulator sessions, ensuring they get the most out of every experience. You’ll manage the setup, smooth operation, and performance of simulation systems, providing technical assistance and creating a welcoming, professional environment for all participants. This role is perfect for someone who’s calm, hands-on, and approachable. You should be a quick learner who takes pride in helping others, communicates clearly and maintains composure under pressure, while delivering first-class service.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of computer hardware and simulation software such as Assetto Corsa, F1 Game, and iRacing, ensuring accurate and efficient system operation during live events.
  • Troubleshooting Expertise: Capable of quickly diagnosing and resolving technical issues through a structured and calm approach, maintaining system reliability under demanding conditions.
  • Data & Systems Monitoring: Collect and validate system performance data during events; fault logs and configuration records; elevate issues promptly and support on-site solutions.
  • Test & Validation: Perform pre-event bench tests, cable/loom continuity checks and labelling; complete FAT/SAT documentation and ensure flight cases are packed to kit lists.
  • Technical Reporting: Produce concise end-of-day and post-event engineering reports covering build status, schedule adherence, equipment utilisation and sustainability/asset tracking. Distribute to relevant stakeholders on time.
  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrates sharp observation and proactive thinking to detect and resolve potential issues before they affect event performance or client experience.
  • Project Coordination: Work closely with operations, production, project and finance teams to keep schedules, shipping, and on-site tasks aligned so deliverables are ready for event start.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance: Follow risk assessments, method statements and safe-systems-of-work; keep the work area tidy and equipment stored/handled to company guidelines.
  • Teamwork & Communication: Support junior colleagues, communicate clearly on communication channels, and maintain professional relationships with internal teams and venue crews.

Requirements

  • Passion for Sim Racing: Enthusiasm and in-depth knowledge of racing principles, Formula 1 circuits and racing lines.
  • Working with Electricity: Practical knowledge of low-voltage DC power, connectors/terminations, and safe handling.
  • Networking: Familiarity with IP networking fundamentals (Ethernet, switches, addressing).
  • Ways of Working: Organised, calm under pressure, strong attention to detail, clear written and verbal communication.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel and work some evenings/weekends aligned to race/event schedules.
  • Racing simulation or gaming experience gained in personal or professional settings.
  • Event-technology experience or hands-on motorsport experience (e.g., Formula Student, club motorsport, trackside volunteering).
  • Exposure to DAQ systems and telemetry concepts; ability to read or interpret telemetry data is advantageous.
  • Awareness of equipment care, asset tracking and sustainability reporting in events environments.
  • A relevant engineering degree (BEng/MEng/MSc) in Motorsport, Automotive, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering is a plus but not essential.
