Beyond Formula 1, Live Wire provides technical production, equipment and specialist personnel to a wide range of live events including festivals, concerts, conferences, theatre and corporate productions.

Our clients include some of the UK’s most respected venues, including the Southbank Centre, Barbican and Sadler’s Wells.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This role is suited to an established AV professional with strong technical knowledge, excellent client-facing skills and experience leading crews on high-profile events.

As a Senior AV Technician, you will take ownership of the planning, preparation, delivery and continual improvement of AV systems across a variety of projects, with a particular focus on Formula 1.

You will be responsible for leading event builds, mentoring junior technicians, maintaining exceptional technical standards and ensuring our clients receive a seamless experience both on-site and throughout the project lifecycle.

Success in this role requires a proactive attitude, exceptional attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to perform under pressure in fast-paced environments.

You’ll be equally comfortable leading a crew during a race weekend, building relationships with senior client stakeholders, troubleshooting complex technical systems and supporting the development of the next generation of technicians.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical Delivery & Event Operations
  • Lead the installation, operation and de-rig of AV systems across Formula 1 and live event projects.
  • Operate high-profile productions involving world-class drivers, athletes, musicians, executives and VIP guests.
  • Take ownership of technical delivery, ensuring all systems are deployed safely, efficiently and to the highest standard.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and effectively during live operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, equipment utilisation and event delivery standards.
  • Project Preparation & Planning
  • Produce and review technical specifications, equipment lists, system designs and event documentation.
  • Assist with project planning, resource allocation and crew requirements.
  • Work closely with Production, Operations and Project Management teams to ensure successful event delivery.
  • Support the continual development of technical standards, procedures and best practices.
  • Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead and mentor junior technicians both on-site and within the warehouse environment.
  • Promote a positive, professional and safety-focused working culture.
  • Support training and knowledge sharing across the wider technical team.
  • Act as a senior point of contact on-site for technical queries and decision making.
  • Equipment Management
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained, tested and prepared to the highest standard.
  • Take ownership of equipment condition, reporting damages and coordinating repairs where necessary.
  • Support warehouse operations including stock management, quality control and packing procedures.
  • Ensure equipment is packed, documented and shipped safely and efficiently for international events.
  • Client Relationships & Reporting
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, suppliers and event stakeholders.
  • Produce comprehensive post-event reports covering technical performance, equipment usage, logistics, sustainability initiatives and recommendations for future improvements.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and internal teams throughout all stages of project delivery.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within the live events, AV or technical production industry.
  • Strong technical understanding across audio, video, networking and control systems.
  • Proven experience leading crews and managing technical delivery on live events.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK and internationally.
  • Experience working within Formula 1, motorsport, broadcast or major sporting events.
  • Knowledge of Dante, Q-SYS, networking and IP-based AV systems.
  • Experience with LED processing, media servers and live video distribution.
  • IPAF, PASMA or relevant industry qualifications.
  • Experience managing client relationships and leading technical projects.
