BSLE Non-Executive Director - Borders Sport and Leisure Enterprises (BSLE) is the trading subsidiary of Live Borders, a registered charity, supporting the charitable goals of the Trust. The commercial activities such as cafes, cinema and retail are accounted for within BSLE.
As a Director you will play an important part in leading and governing the company, working with like-minded people who have a passion for our values and are fully committed to this leadership role.
This unpaid non-executive role is an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of people living in and visiting the Scottish Borders by supporting the commercial trading arm of the Live Borders charitable trust. The successful candidate will be expected to attend 2 board meetings per year with an additional AGM, and contribute to decision making and governance processes, including signing off accounts.
Our ideal candidate will have experience in either the Hospitality sector and/or Finance & Accountancy. We are also keen to hear from people who would be interested in sitting on the board as a Non-Executive Director Trustee.

The Person Ideally the candidate will have experience of:
- Working as a Board Member/Trustee and/or company Director
- Working in commerce and business
- Working with Charity Boards or committees as a member or advisor
- Live Borders services (as a user)
- Experience in one of the following professional disciplines: Hospitality; Business Development; Marketing and Commercial Development; Performance, Scrutiny and Review; Governance; Finance & Accountancy
Ideally the candidate will have experience of one or more of the following:
- The legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of being a non-executive director
- Charitable and company law and the role of a Border Member/Trustee
- Effective business management
- Financial planning and monitoring
- Live Borders services across the Scottish Borders
And to round things off perfectly these additional attributes:
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and listening)
- Willingness to devote additional time and effort to the role as required
- Balancing tact and diplomacy with willingness to challenge and constructively criticise
- Excellent business acumen, leadership and advocacy
- Good independent judgement, political impartiality and the ability to think creatively in the context of the organisation and external environment
