JOB PURPOSE
The Modern Apprentice will support schools to allow more children to be more active, more often through delivery of extracurricular sports clubs and gross motor skill and physical literacy programmes. Training will be provided. They will also undertake a SVQ Level 2 qualification in Sports Coaching at SCQF Level 6, as well as have opportunities for other sports related qualifications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the co-ordination and delivery of sport and activity programmes for either nursery aged, primary aged children, or secondary aged young people.
- Support delivery of exercise and physical activity (including motor skills development programmes) as well as sports programmes to targeted children and young people during the school day.
- Deliver extra-curricular sports clubs before school, at lunch and/or after school in a variety of sports.
- Encourage and involve children not currently engaged in sport/health related activities.
- Use Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to produce documents.
- Monitor and report on children's participation in sports and activity sessions including evaluating sessions and programmes.
- Complete the SCQF Level 6 Sports Coaching Modern Apprenticeship.
- Undertake any other duties which may be allocated as and when required.
JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Experience of sports coaching and/or working with children in a paid or voluntary capacity.
- Must be IT literate with an understanding of applications including Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Confident communication skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative.
- Ability to set objectives and work within set time scales.
- Can demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team.
- Membership of PVG Scheme will be required.
Health & Safety
- Able to cope with the demands of the job and attend on a regular basis.
- Willing to undertake Health & Safety training relevant to the post.
General
- Maintain confidentiality and observe data protection guidelines.
- Excellent work ethic and positive attitude.
- Good timekeeping and organisational skills.
- Passion for sport and physical activity.
Any additional requirements
Candidates will have the opportunity to undertake job related qualifications, such as Child Protection, First Aid and Scottish Governing Body sports coaching and officiating qualifications.
