JOB PURPOSE: The objective of the post is to deliver and develop Live Active Leisure’s Buddy Walking project which provides 1-2-1 opportunities for those who are inactive, isolated and require support to start on their physical activity journey. The post holder will be an integral part of the Wellbeing Team linking buddy walks to other parts of the Wellbeing Programme and contributing to the overall team priorities and outcomes:
- Reduce isolation and improve health and wellbeing of communities by providing local physical activity programmes
- Co-produce with communities to increase the number of sustainable and accessible models of physical activity interventions
- Increase awareness amongst stakeholders of the benefits of physical activity and the local opportunities available
Operational Duties
Key Tasks
Project Delivery
- Coordinate and develop the new Buddy Walking initiative for inactive, isolated adults linking into other existing Wellbeing programmes (e.g. Care at Home / Stride for Life)
- Deliver 1-2-1 Buddy Walks with referred or identified service users, building in a progressive element to promote long-term adherence to walking after the initial intervention. Walks will likely begin and end at the client’s home address.
- Follow up with clients at set intervals, to record how many have continued to choose to walk for shorter journeys within their community.
- Where appropriate look to link up service users from the same community to establish a local peer support network.
- Deliver services to meet quality and health and safety standards.
Partnerships
- Develop and grow the programme with local partners, ensuring that feedback is given to referring agencies detailing impact.
- Work with partners to identify priority group needs in relation to physical activity in specific geographic areas and for specialist populations (i.e. those receiving Care at Home or Community Physiotherapy).
- Carry out consultation activity with priority groups and communities to shape programme development.
- Work with services and professionals to encourage continued referral into the programme, making improvements to the process where appropriate.
Promotion
- Produce material and disseminate information for the marketing and promotion of programmes.
- Represent the company at profile raising events/local groups and work with facility operation staff to ensure the effective promotion of programmes.
Performance monitoring
- Establish, maintain and record financial and information systems appropriate to the needs of the services provided.
- Provide updates and reports to line managers to assist in the monitoring, evaluation and review of the programmes.
Health and safety
Key Tasks
- To ensure that routes are safe and appropriate for the needs of each client.
- To comply with the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and all supplementary legislation.
- To ensure that safe operating procedures for all programmed activities are implemented in line with operational policies and guidelines.
Training
Key Tasks
- To attend regular staff training sessions, be they held in-house or externally.
- To support the planning and delivery of activity instructor training courses held ‘in-house’.
- To be a mentor to newly trained colleagues as required by the company.
General
Key Tasks
- To ensure you are physically fit to carry out your duties at all times.
- To carry out other reasonable duties as may be required.
