We are looking for a dedicated and innovative Motor Vehicle Lecturer to join our team and contribute to the delivery of outstanding teaching and learning across our Motor Vehicle programmes. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high‑quality teaching, learning, and assessment from Level 1 through to Level 3 Diplomas, including evening programmes. You will provide students with stimulating and effective learning experiences that reflect current industry practices and meet the needs of both learners and employers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of Motor Vehicle units, including theory and practical sessions.
  • Deliver specialist content in Electric and Hybrid Vehicle maintenance, repair, and safe working practices (a relevant qualification and experience in this area is essential).
  • Support the development of the curriculum, integrating innovative approaches and industry‑relevant content.
  • Provide instruction in Fabrication and Welding, with appropriate qualifications to deliver units in this area.
  • Monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and support learners in achieving their academic and personal goals.
  • Promote high standards of teaching that enable progression, development, and career readiness.

  • Contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
  • Contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and actively engage in the annual review.
  • Be aware of national developments in subject area and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons in order to achieve effective management of the learning process.
  • Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and student autonomy.
  • Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued.
  • Establish and maintain procedures with students which promote and maintain appropriate behaviour, communication and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
  • Set and mark work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies, to record work carried out and assessment of same.
  • Track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies.
  • Provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences.
  • Be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and play an appropriate part in their implementation.
  • Evaluate and improve own communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers.
  • Liaise with Deputy Head/Head of School in contributing to the design of programmes and teaching approaches which will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added.
  • Liaise with Deputy Head/Head of School and curriculum teams in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area.
  • Work with colleagues with relevant expertise to identify and address additional student English and Maths skills development in subject area.
  • Review own professional development needs and participate fully in future training and development.
  • Communicate and consult with parents, carers and students including Parent’s Evening, Welcome Evenings, Open Evenings and other college events.
  • Ensure that all students in the subject area comply with College’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating and enhance the student experience.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Essential

  • Hold at least a Level 3 qualification in Motor Vehicle Maintenance.
  • Relevant vocational experience in Motor Vehicle Maintenance.
  • Knowledge and understanding of modern Vehicle Systems.
  • Engaged in Continuing Professional Development.
  • Minimum of Level 3 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete.
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves.

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching from Entry Level to Level 3.
  • Recent experience of teaching and assessing in the Motor Industry.
  • A recognised teaching qualification or willingness to complete.
  • Proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery in Motor Vehicle Technology.
  • Experience of resource based learning.
  • Membership of a relevant professional.
  • Experience of assessing students’ needs and planning curriculum for their benefit including Technology Enhanced Learning.
  • Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employers.
  • Good understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes.
