Are you looking for a stimulating and worthwhile challenge? Littledown School is a primary special school for children who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many children will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism and ADHD. The work we do is both varied and challenging and, as a trauma informed organisation, all staff are provided with extensive training and support. Staff at our school know that no two days are the same and that no two children are the same either. Our children require very special adults who can support children with behaviours that are complex and, at times, challenging.

We are re-opening our Alternative Provision in September 2026 and would like to employ an Alternative Provision Learning Mentor who can work as part of our superb team in order to support the learning and development of pupils with a range of needs. This role will include working with KS1 pupils as part of our on-site nurture group as well as working 1-1 with primary age children and their allocated adults in mainstream settings to prevent suspensions and exclusions.

  • Have GCSE at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) including English & Maths (C or equivalent)
  • Have a relevant Level 3 qualification
  • Be flexible, caring, hardworking and understanding
  • Have a positive and cheerful attitude
  • Be committed to work full-time
  • Have a good amount of knowledge/experience of SEN/SEMH e.g., Autism, ADHD, Trauma, Attachment
  • Understand the importance of Trauma Informed Practice and be able to implement this approach in your daily routines
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively and clearly in English both verbally and in writing.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary; London Fringe; SEN allowance
  • Employee Assistance Programme, occupational health support and internal well-being schemes including free flu vaccinations
  • Group reflective practice/supervision from an experienced counsellor
  • An excellent opportunity for professional and career development, including access to a range of online learning opportunities, a strong CPD programme and could include gaining additional qualifications such as ELSA or Trauma Informed Practitioner status
  • Free breakfasts and lunches
  • Weekly PPA alongside colleagues, with no pupils on site
  • Flexible working arrangements considered

Although demanding, this post is exciting and rewarding for the right candidate. The successful candidate must have a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). References will be sought prior to interview.
