Premier Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading company based in Cambridge. This role involves the design and development of Special Purpose Machinery, taking projects from concept through to production and working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:
- A degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Experience in mechanical design, ideally within Special Purpose Machinery, automation, or industrial equipment
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
- Knowledge of materials, fabrication, and machining processes
- Experience designing for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA)
- Ability to perform engineering calculations and FEA analysis
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Understanding of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromechanical systems (desirable)
The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:
- Designing and developing Special Purpose Machinery from concept to production
- Producing 3D models, technical drawings, and BOMs using CAD software
- Ensuring designs comply with industry standards and customer specifications
