As the Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator (SENCO), you will be the strategic lead for inclusion, ensuring that every pupil with a disability or additional needs receives the bespoke support required to thrive. Operating as a vital member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will oversee the day to day implementation of SEND policy and provide expert professional guidance to colleagues, parents and external agencies. By monitoring progress and evaluating the impact of specialist interventions, you will dismantle barriers to learning and champion a culture of high aspirations. You will empower staff through targeted training and lead our team of Teaching Assistants to deliver high quality provision that meets the diverse needs of our pupils. Ultimately, you will play a transformative role in the strategic development of our school, ensuring that all children at Little Mead Primary Academy have the foundations to achieve their full potential.
Duties:
- Lead the strategic development of the school SEND policy and handbook, ensuring that objectives are reflected in both School and Trust Team Development Plans.
- Oversee the day to day achievement of pupils with SEND by coordinating specific provision and maintaining accurate registers and provision mapping.
- Provide professional guidance and support to colleagues on the graduated approach to SEND support and signpost staff to appropriate training and resources.
- Act as the primary point of contact for external agencies, including educational psychologists, health and social care professionals and the local authority SEN department.
- Secure relevant services and additional funding for pupils, including managing Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments and reviewing EHCP progress with parents.
- Monitor and analyse progress data for pupils with SEND, evaluating the effectiveness of intervention groups and funding against pupil outcomes.
- Line manage Teaching Assistants, including conducting appraisal and review meetings to ensure high standards of support for pupils.
- Promote an ethos that supports the school SEND policy and ensures the school meets its responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 regarding reasonable adjustments.
- Identify staff training needs and coordinate professional development opportunities, including sessions during INSET days, to improve outcomes for pupils.
