Based in Dorset, the role involves reporting directly to the Engineering Director and leading bespoke design and development projects from concept through to completion. The successful candidate will play a key role in creating custom engineered products, taking ownership of the entire project lifecycle. You will work closely with customers and internal teams, developing innovative and commercially viable design solutions that meet both technical and business requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Be the technical point of contact for customers, supporting NPI and R&D activities from concept through to launch.
- Produce detailed product designs and engineering drawings using SolidWorks, ensuring compliance with customer and manufacturing requirements.
- Prepare product costings and quotations.
- Maintain and manage accurate ERP data, including the creation of new product records, bills of materials and manufacturing routings.
- Deliver technical briefings and training to production teams.
- Liaise closely with toolmakers to ensure tooling specifications are accurate.
- Conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
- Design jigs and fixtures.
- Manage and update process and method documentation to ensure consistency and continuous improvement.
- Manage product sample approval process.
- Use problem solving techniques to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Process capability studies and lead continuous improvement activities to enhance overall performance.
The Candidate:
- Proven experience in design of plastic components.
- Strong knowledge and experience with SolidWorks.
- Experienced in project costing, tooling specifications and product design.
