The Technical Manager will lead the development and delivery of technical expertise across the sales and wider commercial teams, ensuring a best-in-class service for our customers. This role is responsible for maintaining compliance with industry standards, managing and developing our technical resources, and fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, the Technical Manager will engage in technical lobbying and industry networking to continuously enhance industry-specific knowledge to drive business improvement. The Technical Manager holds leadership and accountability for ensuring the successful delivery of projects aligned with business objectives, on time and within budget.
Key Accountabilities
- Technical Support: Operate and continuously improve the technical helpdesk to provide expert support to internal teams, customers, and partners. Deliver tailored solutions including tapered insulation layouts, thermal calculations, component schedules, roof measurements, drainage assessments, and site evaluations. Ensure technical excellence to facilitate sales and enhance customer experience.
- Technical Specifications, Manuals and Documentation: Translate market and customer requirements into clear, accurate technical specifications and documentation. Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and validate data, ensuring products are fit for purpose and compliant with relevant standards.
- Technical Advocacy: Represent the business in industry forums and committees to influence technical standards, legislation, and market positioning. Proactively monitor and shape regulatory developments to support strategic objectives.
- Certification: Lead and coordinate product and system certification processes at national and international levels. Manage testing logistics, execution, and documentation to ensure compliance and market readiness.
- Knowledge Management: Develop, maintain, and share technical expertise across environmental, fire safety, and regulatory domains. Ensure knowledge is current and accessible through continuous learning and structured documentation.
- Technical Training: Design and deliver impactful technical training for internal teams and external stakeholders. Tailor content to audience needs, ensuring deep understanding of product applications and installation best practices.
- Customer Complaints: Provide expert technical analysis to resolve customer complaints and queries. Conduct site visits and documentation reviews to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Competition: Conduct technical benchmarking and market analysis of competitor products. Generate insights to inform strategic decisions and identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation.
- Product Development: Pro-actively collaborate to translate customer needs into viable technical solutions. Ensure alignment with manufacturing capabilities, cost constraints, and regulatory standards.
- Leadership & People Management: Build and lead a high-performing technical team through coaching, mentoring, and succession planning. Foster an inclusive culture that values diverse perspectives and continuous development.
Skills and Competencies:
- A degree / equivalent qualification / equivalent experience in a building-related technical discipline, ideally supported by ongoing professional development through workplace experience and external learning.
- Typically 5+ years’ of relevant industry experience, though equivalent experience demonstrating the required competencies will also be considered, with a proven track record of applying technical expertise in commercial environments.
- Deep understanding of insulation systems, building regulations, and relevant industry standards.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical information into practical solutions for commercial and customer-facing teams.
- Experience in managing technical projects, including R&D programmes, from concept to delivery.
