Lister Community School is seeking an enthusiastic, highly organised and proactive Lead Science Technician to oversee the effective running of our Science laboratories and technical support services. You will play a vital role in ensuring a safe, well-resourced and inspiring learning environment that supports outstanding teaching and learning across the Science Department. You will lead on laboratory organisation, equipment management, health and safety compliance, and technical support, while also line managing and developing science technicians within the department. Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Technical Support
- Lead the management, organisation and maintenance of all Science laboratories, equipment and resources.
- Provide expert technical support to teaching staff to enhance practical science teaching.
- Guide staff and students in the use of apparatus and scientific techniques.
- Lead the practical requisition process and ensure timely distribution of resources.
- Support and develop Science Technicians and contribute to their training and induction.
- Teaching & Learning Support
- Assist teachers in planning and delivering effective practical science lessons.
- Demonstrate specialist scientific techniques when required.
- Support students in the classroom during practical activities.
- Monitor and improve practical science operations to enhance learning outcomes.
- Resource Management
- Carry out termly stock takes and equipment inspections.
- Manage procurement, storage and maintenance of scientific apparatus and consumables.
- Maintain accurate inventory and ensure availability of teaching resources.
- Oversee the receipt and checking of deliveries.
- Health, Safety & Facilities
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations across all science areas.
- Oversee maintenance of laboratories, prep rooms, equipment and work surfaces.
- Conduct weekly safety checks and resolve issues promptly.
- Ensure safe handling and disposal of hazardous substances.
- Report repairs and liaise with premises and IT teams as required.
- Support staff training in health and safety procedures.
- Professional & Team Development
- Line manage Science Technicians and support their professional development.
- Participate in recruitment, induction and appraisal processes.
- Engage in ongoing training and development opportunities.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and wider school staff.
- General Duties
- Prepare resources and equipment for lessons in a timely manner.
- Support creation of displays and printed resources for the Science Department.
- Provide general administrative and operational support as required.
- Undertake any additional duties as directed by senior leadership.
