The Head of the Lister Learning Centre is responsible for leading the day‑to‑day provision of the Centre, ensuring high‑quality support for all students. The role carries accountability for the progress, attainment, and pastoral development of pupils within the LLC, alongside supervising, mentoring and teaching small groups to provide a consistent and supportive presence. The post holder will also work collaboratively with staff, families and external agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for students.
Responsibilities – Working with Students
- Lead the Lister Learning Centre provision for pupils on both long‑term and short‑term placements.
- Oversee pupils in gaining essential qualifications via co‑ordination of relevant members of staff.
- Monitor progress and attainment of students in the LLC and ensure necessary intervention is put into place.
- Plan and lead PE enrichment sessions and other interventions for LLC students, including where appropriate trips off site.
- Plan and lead booster sessions for mainstream students in the LLC.
- Lead on maintaining standards of behaviour in the LLC (e.g. running detentions).
- Ensure that students' needs are identified and addressed.
- Liaise with families, year teams, subject teachers and external services to provide excellent education and care for all pupils and enhance their life chances.
- Mentor pupils and advocate for them so that they stay in education.
- Ensure students have high‑quality independent learning resources.
- Provide a safe and happy learning environment.
- Actively support students around issues regarding their welfare and safeguarding, and adhere to statutory guidance (e.g. "Keeping Children Safe in Education").
- Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns promptly.
Responsibilities – Working with Systems
- Effectively use Arbor and other systems to track the behaviour, attendance and progress/attainment of students.
- Use data to analyse trends, evaluate the effectiveness of provision and report progress to relevant stakeholders, including SLT and governors.
- Maintain records of interventions and meetings and communicate these effectively with relevant parties.
- Create and manage reintegration plans for students transitioning back into the main school from the LLC, ensuring continued support and monitoring.
- Ensure that LLC strategies align with the school's broader behaviour and inclusion policies, incorporating input from SLT.
- Implement systems of recognition and praise for student progress in the school, aligning with the school's emphasis on positive behaviour reinforcement.
- Escalate serious concerns (behavioural, academic or safeguarding) to senior leadership or external agencies.
Responsibilities – Working with Staff
- Liaise with individual teachers, departments and faculties in relation to the monitoring of individual students' behaviour.
- Liaise with relevant administrative members of staff to ensure provision (e.g. curriculum and exams) are in place for LLC students.
- Lead LLC recruitment and re‑integration processes with Year Teams.
- Ensure students are provided with the necessary resources to achieve well.
- Liaise with outside agencies regarding individual students.
Responsibilities – Working with Families
- Be the first port of call for parents in relation to student behaviour and barriers to learning, and communicate with them regarding students' academic and pastoral progress regularly.
- Form strong relationships with parents and carers.
- Conduct home visits where necessary to engage hard‑to‑reach families and improve student attendance and behaviour.
Responsibilities – Data Protection
- Be aware of your responsibilities under the Data Protection Act whilst carrying out your duties.
Responsibilities – General Administrative Support
- Facilitate and organise any visits from outside agencies, ensuring room bookings, visitor requests, timetabling, student and staff communication, etc.
- Oversee additional qualification administration working closely with other stakeholders.
Additional Duties
- Work within the framework of the school ethos, adhering to expectations at all times.
- Maintain high standards of professional behaviour and presentation.
- Take responsibility for Health and Safety in the post holder's area of work.
- Any other duties commensurate with the grade may be required from time to time.
- All staff are expected to take part in necessary training and staff development.
- Cover lunch duties.
- First aider for the school (training will be provided).
