We are leading a confidential search for a highly experienced and commercially driven Senior Property Treaty Underwriter on behalf of a global reinsurance group entering its next phase of international growth. This role forms part of a strategic build-out of the Property Treaty capability, with a focus on expanding a global portfolio across Property Excess of Loss, Catastrophe, and Pro Rata business. The role involves evaluating risks, developing pricing strategies, maintaining broker and client relationships, and contributing to the company’s profitability and growth. The successful candidate will join a lean, high-calibre underwriting team, offering strong visibility, autonomy, and meaningful impact.
As a Senior Property Treaty Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting, managing, and developing a global Property Treaty portfolio, working closely with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders. The role combines technical underwriting, portfolio management, and strategic input, and is well suited to a senior underwriter looking to play a more influential role in shaping portfolio direction within a growing reinsurance platform. You will work alongside senior leadership, contributing to underwriting discipline, portfolio performance, and long-term market positioning.
Key Responsibilities- Underwriting & Portfolio Management
- Underwrite Property Treaty risks (XoL, Cat, Pro Rata) in line with underwriting appetite, authority, and business plan.
- Assess new and renewal submissions with strong technical judgement across pricing, exposure, and structure.
- Contribute to portfolio performance, risk selection, and profitability across global business.
- Monitor aggregates and ensure disciplined portfolio management.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with global brokers and clients.
- Lead negotiations on key accounts and support both renewal retention and new business generation.
- Represent the platform in broker meetings and market discussions, supporting long-term partnerships.
- Utilise pricing tools and catastrophe models (e.g., RMS, AIR) to assess risk and support underwriting decisions.
- Contribute to business planning, portfolio strategy, and emerging risk analysis.
- Review and finalise contract wordings to ensure clarity and alignment with underwriting intent.
- Work closely with internal underwriting, exposure management, actuarial, and claims teams.
- Support the Head of Line of Business / Group CUO on strategic initiatives and reporting.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of underwriting processes and tools.
- 15-20+ years experience in Property Treaty underwriting or broking within the London or global reinsurance market.
- Strong technical expertise across Property Treaty business (XoL, Cat, Pro Rata).
- Proven experience using pricing tools and catastrophe models (e.g., RMS, AIR).
- Established broker relationships and ability to operate confidently in a client-facing role.
- Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with complex data and modelling outputs.
- Professional qualifications (e.g., ACII) or equivalent.
- Experience contributing to portfolio build-out or underwriting strategy.
- Exposure to international and emerging markets.
- Background within a growing or entrepreneurial underwriting platform.
