Our client in Portsmouth is seeking an experienced Children’s Assessment Social Worker to join its Children’s Services team. The role involves undertaking statutory assessments of children and families, responding to referrals, identifying risks and needs, and determining the appropriate level of support and intervention.

The successful candidate will work closely with children, parents, carers and partner agencies to understand family circumstances, complete high-quality assessments and ensure children receive the right support at the right time.

Key responsibilities:

  • Undertake statutory child and family assessments.
  • Respond to referrals and assess levels of need and risk.
  • Visit children and families and ensure their views and wishes are considered.
  • Identify safeguarding concerns and take appropriate action.
  • Work closely with schools, health professionals, police and other partner agencies.
  • Develop appropriate plans and recommendations based on assessment findings.
  • Prepare clear reports and maintain accurate case records.
  • Manage a caseload effectively and meet statutory timescales.
  • Promote child-centred and strengths-based social work practice.
  • Ensure children’s safety, welfare and best interests remain the priority.

Requirements:

  • Social Work England registration
  • Recognised Social Work qualification
  • Relevant experience in statutory children’s social care
  • Experience undertaking assessments and casework in children's services
