Fire and Building Safety Officer Location: London Bridge Starting salary: £50,175 to £51,228 Further pay progression: Subject to performance A key fire and building safety role with real resident impactThis is an excellent opportunity for a Fire and Building Safety Officer to join a highly respected resident led housing organisation in Southwark, managing homes across Borough and Bermondsey. This is a meaningful role for someone who wants their work to make a visible difference to resident safety, building assurance and the quality of housing services. The roleYou will support the delivery and coordination of fire safety and building safety activity across the housing stock, including higher risk buildings. The role will involve monitoring safety actions, maintaining accurate records, supporting resident engagement, coordinating with contractors and consultants, and helping ensure fire and building safety information is clear, current and audit ready. This is an operational coordination, monitoring and assurance role. You will not act as the statutory Responsible Person, Principal Accountable Person or building owner, but you will play an important part in supporting safe and well managed homes. Key responsibilitiesYou will be involved in: • Monitoring Fire Risk Assessment actions and fire door programmes • Tracking fire and building safety actions through to completion • Maintaining action trackers, risk registers and assurance records • Supporting Golden Thread information management • Helping coordinate building safety activity for higher risk buildings • Working with residents on safety works, access requirements and communication • Supporting compliance reporting, board updates and audit responses • Working with contractors, consultants, residents and Southwark Council • Escalating overdue actions, risks or incomplete evidence • Supporting emergency planning and incident response where required The role also includes participation in an out of hours rota, mainly providing telephone advice where clarification is needed on a repair or safety issue. Site attendance outside normal hours is expected to be rare. What we are looking forWe are looking for someone with experience in social housing property, fire safety, compliance or building safety. You should be organised, clear, calm and confident working with residents, contractors, consultants and internal teams. You will need to manage detail carefully, follow actions through and escalate risks in a timely and professional way. Essential experienceYou will need experience of: • Working in social housing property, compliance, fire safety or building safety • Supporting fire safety or building safety programmes • Managing actions, risk information, records or assurance processes • Working with residents, contractors, consultants and operational teams • Supporting audits, inspections, reports or regulatory enquiries Essential qualificationsYou will need a Level 4 qualification, or equivalent experience, in one of the following: • Building Safety • Fire Safety • Construction • Property or Asset Management • Building Control • A related discipline You will also need formal health and safety or fire safety training, such as IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH Fire Safety. Recognised training or awareness in at least one of the following areas is also required: • Building Safety Act • Fire Risk Assessment • Passive Fire Protection • Compartmentation • Fire Door Inspection • Resident Engagement Strategy • High Rise Residential Building Safety Desirable It would be helpful if you have membership of, or are working towards membership of, CIH, IFE, IFSM or CIOB. Additional training in fire doors, passive fire protection, fire risk assessment, compartmentation, building safety management or Safety Case work would also be valuable. Why apply?
