Our client based in Southampton is seeking an experienced and skilled Adult Social Worker to join their Learning Disabilities and Neurodiversity Team in Southampton. This role requires a confident practitioner with strong legal literacy, excellent assessment and recording skills, and the ability to manage complex and high-risk situations within a busy adult social care setting. This is an exciting opportunity to work with individuals with learning disabilities and neurodiverse needs, delivering person-centred, evidence-based interventions that promote independence, wellbeing, and positive outcomes.

What will your responsibilities be?

  • Undertaking Care Act 2014 assessments and reviews in line with statutory responsibilities.
  • Leading on Section 42 Safeguarding Enquiries, ensuring robust, timely and proportionate responses.
  • Completing Mental Capacity Assessments (MCA) with strong evidence-based practice and confidently leading Best Interest decisions.
  • Developing strengths-based care and support plans focused on promoting independence and reducing long-term care needs.
  • Managing a dedicated caseload of adults with learning disabilities and neurodiverse conditions, including those with complex needs.
  • Conducting lone working home visits and engaging effectively with service users, families, and carers.
  • Working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary framework including health professionals, providers, and partner agencies.
  • Maintaining accurate, timely, and high-quality case records in line with statutory and organisational requirements.
  • Responding calmly and effectively to high-risk and high-demand situations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • MA, BA, BSc in Social Work, Diploma in Social Work, or CQSW.
  • Must be registered with Social Work England.
  • Minimum 2 years post-qualified experience, including completion of ASYE.
  • Demonstrable experience working with learning disabilities and/or neurodiverse individuals.
  • Strong understanding of the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
  • Experience in safeguarding, Best Interest decisions, and statutory duties.
  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and evidence-based decision-making skills.
  • Strong time management and organisational abilities.
  • High standard of written recording and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to undertake lone working visits confidently.
  • Willingness to be office-based at least one day per week.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car is desirable.

Contract Details

  • Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday).
  • Duration: 3-month initial contract.
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid working with a requirement to attend the office a minimum of one day per week.
