Our client based in Gloucestershire is looking for an experienced Adult Social Worker to join the Adults Safeguarding Team on a 6-month temporary contract. This is a key role within a busy safeguarding service, focusing on screening, risk assessment, and progression of safeguarding referrals. The successful candidate will be a confident practitioner with strong knowledge of adult safeguarding legislation, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to support decision-making across initial referral and safeguarding enquiry processes. The role will require a hybrid working pattern, with office attendance in Gloucester three days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Making initial risk assessments of safeguarding referrals received via the council’s portal, ensuring appropriate and timely decision-making.
  • Supporting screening officers to determine whether concerns meet the threshold for safeguarding enquiries under Section 42.
  • Managing open safeguarding cases, including progression, coordination, and closure of enquiries.
  • Undertaking and supporting Section 42 safeguarding enquiries, balancing individuals’ rights, wishes, and risks in line with statutory duties.
  • Applying a strengths-based, person-centred approach, ensuring individuals remain at the heart of decision-making.
  • Working collaboratively with multi-agency partners, including health, police, and community services, to deliver effective safeguarding responses.
  • Maintaining accurate, timely case records and exercising professional judgement in complex, high-risk situations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional Qualification: MA, BA, BSc in Social Work, Diploma in Social Work, or CQSW.
  • Registration: Must be registered with Social Work England.
  • Experience: Completed ASYE (or equivalent demonstrable experience). Proven experience within Adult Social Care, including safeguarding work. Experience managing complex or high-risk cases and safeguarding enquiries.
  • Legislation Knowledge: Strong understanding of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, safeguarding legislation, and relevant frameworks.
  • Skills: Strong assessment and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team. Confident communication and decision-making in high-pressure environments.
  • Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence and access to a car (exceptions may apply under the Equality Act).

Working Arrangements & Benefits

  • Rate: £35 per hour
  • Contract Length: 6 months (initial)
  • Working Pattern: First 2 weeks office-based for induction. Thereafter hybrid working with 3 days per week in Gloucester office.
