Sir Jonathan North Girls' College currently have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated practitioner to join the team as a Teaching Assistant, to maximise progress of SEND students by providing support to students with SEND.

The post holder will be required to work Monday to Friday 8.15am - 2.45pm which is 30 hours per week for 39 weeks (term-time plus 5 teacher training days).

Main tasks and responsibilities include:

  • To provide support to SEND students within the mainstream as directed by the SENCo.
  • To provide 1:1 and small interventions as directed by the SENCo.

Supporting the Student:

  • Understanding the special needs of the student(s) and bringing experience and knowledge to meeting the student(s) needs.
  • To support the students in achieving agreed targets as outlined on their Learning Plans.
  • Taking into account the special needs involved, to support student progress across the curriculum.
  • To establish a supportive relationship with the student(s) concerned.
  • To write and develop student targets.
  • To assist students with completion of homework.
  • To encourage integration/inclusion of the student with SEND and or additional needs.
  • To develop methods of promoting/reinforcing the student’s self-esteem.
  • To provide support of a confidence nature for students with low self-image and esteem.
  • To complete Student Reviews for named students.

Supporting the Teacher:

  • To assist the class teacher (and other professionals as appropriate) in the development of a suitable programme of support for the student(s) with SEND and or additional needs.
  • In conjunction with the class teacher and/or other professionals to record student progress.
  • To contribute to the maintenance of student records.
  • To undertake any other duties within the purview of the grade as directed by the SENCo.
