We are looking for an experienced Technical Lead to work on an exciting new opportunity in technical documentation, creating and revising Maintenance Instructions (MIs) for two recently refurbed hydroelectric power stations. Together with the Project Manager and the rest of the technical publications team, you will use your technical and industry expertise, documentation experience and subject matter knowledge to ensure successful delivery of tasks aligned to the project and customer specifications. You will work mostly from home, collaborating with offsite technical authoring teams as well as with the customer’s engineering and project teams. The role includes regular on-site visits to the customer’s location in North Wales.
The primary function of the role will be to identify the need for creation of new and revision of existing MIs suitable for use with the customer Content Management System (CMS), structuring and authoring of the MIs, working with the PM to manage a team of technical authors and illustrators and resolve technical queries. This role is for an initial period of 12 months with likely extension to end of 2028.
What You Will Do
- Act as the operational and day-to-day technical expert and key point of contact for the team.
- Scope and define tasks ready for production by the operational teams.
- Monitor deliverables to ensure quality and project KPIs are successfully met.
- Review project schedules to support successful and accurate delivery to key milestones.
- Develop process, training, and production methods, successfully deploying within the organisation to support efficiency gains.
- Work directly with the PM to create development strategies to ensure continuity of capability within the organisation to support the project and services.
To Be Successful You Will Have
- Proven experience in creating and compiling Maintenance Instructions, with the ability to apply mechanical engineering knowledge in a power generation environment. Experience with hydroelectric power plants is a plus.
- Either academic or practical engineering background in a related field.
- Experience of leading a team in a technical publications role.
- Experience of working with structured data and CMS.
- Familiarity with Generative AI.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong English language capability.
- Strong stakeholder management and conflict resolution abilities.
- Demonstrable experience of being proactive, adaptable, and resourceful.
