We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team on-site in Chelmsford. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial and commercial success of our 400kV substation project, delivered under NEC 4 Option C. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a high-value infrastructure project, ensuring cost control, contract management, and overall commercial success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cost Management: Monitor and control project costs to ensure the project is delivered within budget. Prepare and review cost forecasts, identifying risks and opportunities. Validate and manage subcontractor and supplier payments.
  • Contract Administration: Administer the NEC 4 Option C contract, ensuring compliance with all terms and conditions. Manage Compensation Events (CEs) and variations, ensuring timely submissions and agreement. Work closely with the Project Manager to maintain accurate and comprehensive project records.
  • Risk and Value Management: Identify, analyze, and mitigate commercial risks. Assist in value engineering to optimize project performance and reduce unnecessary costs.
  • Reporting: Provide regular financial reports, including cost‑value reconciliations (CVRs) and forecasts. Present financial performance and risk updates to stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Liaise with the client, subcontractors, and internal teams to maintain strong relationships. Support the procurement team in evaluating and appointing subcontractors.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor on large‑scale construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC 4 contracts, particularly Option C.
  • Excellent financial management and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., CEMAR, MS Excel, or similar tools).

Desirable Skills

  • Experience on power infrastructure or substation projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, Commercial Management, or a related field.
