Overview

Head of Research Computing Platforms reporting to the Chief Information Officer, collaborating with leading scientists to strategically oversee platforms that support a diverse range of cutting-edge research initiatives. Lead expert teams, integrate with Research Data Management and Research Software Engineering units, and drive the institute’s world-class computational research capabilities with HPC at the center of the remit.

As a flagship for discovery, the organisation champions bold thinking and collaborative problem-solving. The environment features state-of-the-art facilities, including over 25PB of storage and cutting-edge GPU clusters, and aims to advance healthcare and disease prevention through computational research.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a dynamic plan for the growth of computing capabilities, forecast future needs, and align with evolving research trends.
  • Lead and grow teams across scientific and research computing; work with interdisciplinary groups to translate technical needs for non-technical stakeholders into long-term strategy and vision.
  • Oversee a portfolio of complex projects, manage budgets, and foster a culture of professional excellence.
  • Ensure seamless integration with Research Data Management and Research Software Engineering units, maintaining the institute’s standards in computational research excellence.
  • Champion the use of state-of-the-art facilities and technologies to support a diverse range of research initiatives and collaborations.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in HPC, Linux, and scientific computing; experience leading teams in a research computing environment.
  • Experience developing strategic roadmaps for computing infrastructure and forecasting capacity needs to support research goals.
  • Ability to collaborate with scientists and non-technical stakeholders to align technology with research strategy and vision.
