If you’re an Engineering Manager in the DevOps/SRE/Platform world who still considers themselves techies at heart, this role could genuinely be worth a look. As we know, the natural progression in engineering is usually the same. You start hands-on, gradually take on more responsibility, move into leadership, and before you know it your days become filled with stakeholder meetings, people management and strategy decks instead of solving engineering problems. While that progression is great for some people, others start to miss the technical side more than they expected: the building, the problem solving, the architecture discussions, and the satisfaction of actually getting stuck into complex platforms and infrastructure again.
That’s exactly why this opportunity stands out! You’ll be joining a well-established player in the DevOps and Platform Engineering space. However, you won't just be a cog in a large organisation; you’ll sit within a specialist Centre of Excellence Platform Engineering unit, a smaller, highly technical group built around platform-as-a-product thinking and doing engineering properly.
You’ll act as a senior technical voice across engagements, helping shape platform strategy, architecture and engineering standards, while staying close to the hands-on work. You’ll be using your expertise in modern cloud native stacks, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, GitOps, observability tooling and SRE practices, building and improving large scale, critical platforms.
Importantly, leadership here doesn’t pull you away from the tech. You’ll still be involved in design work, problem solving, mentoring engineers and driving engineering best practice day to day. Hybrid working is in place, with occasional client site travel depending on the project (all expenses covered). Additionally, you'll need to be eligible to be Security cleared!
If you’ve got leadership experience but still enjoy the technical side of DevOps, Platform Engineering or SRE, this could be a great fit. Apply below, let's have a chat!
