Engineers Gate (EG) is a leading investment manager founded in 2014 as a quantitative, computer-driven trading firm. Today, EG operates as a diversified, multi-strategy investment platform that combines systematic research with selective discretionary approaches. EG's multi-manager platform allows independent investment teams to pursue distinct strategies while benefiting from shared infrastructure, risk management, and operational support.

The firm’s collaborative groups of researchers, engineers, and investment professionals deploy sophisticated statistical models, proprietary technology, and a centralized data platform to isolate and solve challenging problem sets in the global financial markets.

About The Role

The Systems Engineer will join EG's Systems Infrastructure team, which is responsible for all layers of technology in our environment, from networking to servers and application services, and will report to the London Head of Infrastructure. The firm's infrastructure is built using modern technologies, with a focus on creating robust, reusable components and the strategic use of automation.

As a "flat" team, all members have exposure to, and are responsible for, the design, implementation, operation, and support of our environment. The Systems Engineer will initially focus on day-to-day system administration and supporting end-user systems, with the opportunity to grow into other areas of our systems infrastructure over time, ultimately managing large projects independently.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical aptitude in an area they've worked in previously, along with the ability to think systemically and reason through problems they haven't yet encountered. While new team members will receive support and mentorship from the rest of the team, they will also be expected to conduct independent research and propose both solutions to emerging problems and improvements to current processes.

This role offers a unique opportunity to make an impact on the daily operations of our firm, with the potential to oversee more substantial infrastructure projects over time.

This job provides exposure to:

  • Configuration management tools such as Ansible, and infrastructure management tools such as Terraform
  • Containerized workloads using technologies such as AWS ECS and Batch
  • Heavy use of cloud-managed services (DBaaS, IaaS, etc.) to offload undifferentiated maintenance work from the team
  • Databases of various shapes and sizes, including relational databases, columnar databases, NoSQL, etc.
  • User-facing systems in various shapes and sizes (Windows, Macs, Linux, endpoints, physical, and virtual)
  • A SaaS-heavy corporate environment that favors flexibility and agility over legacy on-premise technologies
  • Cloud-native video-conferencing and phone systems
  • Various storage technologies including object storage, file share systems, and cloud-based platforms such as SharePoint

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in CS, EE, or related field
  • 3-7 years professional experience in technology related field
  • Able to manage projects independently
  • Able to learn new platforms and technologies quickly
  • Public cloud experience (particularly AWS)
  • Windows and Active Directory administration
  • Desktop support across multiple operating systems – Windows, Mac, and Linux
  • Security and compliance controls (endpoint security, firewalls, etc.)
  • Videoconference and phone systems
  • Email system administration and support
  • Database administration
  • Financial industry experience

As set forth in Engineers Gate’s Equal Employment Opportunity policy, we do not discriminate on the basis of any protected group status under any applicable law.
