An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Housing Environmental Health Officer to join a well-established Local Authority in Kent on an initial 9-month assignment. This is a key role focused on delivering high-quality Private Sector Housing services, tackling housing standards, disrepair, and improving living conditions across the borough.

The Role

  • Lead on the delivery of housing enforcement and improvement functions, managing a varied caseload and supporting junior officers.
  • Undertake inspections and assessments of residential properties.
  • Enforce housing legislation including HHSRS and disrepair cases.
  • Manage HMO licensing, compliance, and enforcement.
  • Investigate complaints and take appropriate legal action where required.
  • Attend court/tribunals as an expert witness.
  • Manage empty properties, drainage issues, and environmental concerns.
  • Supervise and support technical officers.
  • Provide expert advice to stakeholders, landlords, and residents.

Requirements (ESSENTIAL)

  • Proven experience within a Local Authority / Council or Housing Association ONLY.
  • Strong background in Private Sector Housing / Environmental Health.
  • Experience with HHSRS, enforcement action, and housing legislation.
  • Knowledge of HMO licensing and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience attending court/tribunal proceedings.
  • Ability to manage complex caseloads and work autonomously.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Working Arrangements

  • Hybrid: 2 days office/site visits, 2 days from home.
  • Hours: 4 days per week (7 hours per day).
  • Office Base: Sittingbourne, Kent.
  • Interviews: Online via MS Teams.
