A large local authority in North London is seeking an experienced Senior Court Practice Lead to join its Youth Justice Service on an ongoing interim basis. This is a senior practice role within a statutory Youth Justice setting, providing leadership, quality assurance and court-facing expertise to ensure high-quality, child-centred outcomes for young people.

Assignment Details

  • Contract Length: 11 months (ongoing assignment)
  • Pay Rate: £31.28 per hour (Umbrella)
  • Hours: 35 hours per week
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid - 2 to 3 days per week in the office
  • Office Location: Civic Centre, North London (EN1)

The Role

Reporting into the Youth Justice Service leadership team, the Senior Court Practice Lead will provide professional leadership across court-related practice, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, proportionate and child-focused youth justice interventions. The post holder will act as a senior practice lead for a defined area of work, holding a small caseload where required and co-working complex cases alongside direct reports. The role will also champion best practice across the service and contribute to continuous improvement through close collaboration with Quality Assurance and Practice Leads.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a proactive, high-quality service to Magistrates' and Crown Courts on behalf of the Youth Justice Service
  • Lead and support court practice, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and youth justice legislation
  • Liaise effectively with Magistrates, Clerks, CPS, Defence Solicitors, Court Services and partner agencies
  • Ensure young people and their families are fully supported through court processes and understand outcomes and sentencing decisions
  • Promote proportionate, fair and child-centred sentencing outcomes
  • Champion best practice across the service and support practice development and service improvement
  • Hold or co-work a small number of complex cases where required
  • Support and mentor practitioners, embedding high standards of professional practice

Essential Requirements

  • Substantial experience within a Youth Justice Service or court-based youth justice role
  • Local authority / council or housing association experience is essential
  • Strong understanding of youth justice legislation, court procedures and statutory frameworks
  • Proven ability to work confidently with courts and multi-agency stakeholders
  • Experience supporting, mentoring or leading practitioners in complex environments
