An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Children’s Social Worker to join the Duty Team in St Helens on a locum basis. This fast-paced frontline team is responsible for responding to referrals from MASH, undertaking assessments, managing Section 47 investigations, and progressing Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and Public Law Outline (PLO) work. You will play a key role in ensuring children receive timely and effective interventions, with the child’s welfare at the centre of all decision-making. The Duty Team provides short-term intervention, holding cases until assessments are completed and plans are established before stepping cases down or transferring them to longer-term teams where required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to referrals and complete statutory assessments
  • Manage CIN, CP, and PLO cases
  • Undertake Section 47 investigations
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies and families
  • Analyse risk and develop effective plans to safeguard children

Requirements:

  • Social Work England registration
  • Previous experience within a Duty, Assessment, or Safeguarding Team
  • Strong knowledge of CIN, CP, PLO, and safeguarding procedures
  • Excellent communication, assessment, and analytical skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
