Senior Technical Accountant
Location: London Pay Rate: £436.83 per day (Umbrella) Contract: Agency/Temporary Hours: Full-time
We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Accountant to join a local authority finance team in London.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled finance professional with strong technical accounting experience to support statutory reporting, financial compliance and the delivery of high-quality financial services.
The Role
You will support the Chief Accountant and Deputy Chief Accountant with the preparation of the annual Statement of Accounts, while leading on key technical areas including Collection Fund accounting, VAT, Balance Sheet management, revenue accounting and statutory returns.
You will provide expert technical accounting advice, support audit requirements and ensure financial processes remain robust, accurate and compliant with legislation, accounting standards and CIPFA guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation of the annual Statement of Accounts.
- Lead on Collection Fund, VAT, revenue accounting and Balance Sheet management.
- Provide technical accounting advice across the organisation.
- Prepare statutory returns including WGA, Revenue Outturn and NNDR returns.
- Support year-end closure, reconciliations and audit processes.
- Prepare financial guidance, working papers and reports.
- Deputise for senior finance colleagues when required.
Requirements
- Strong local government finance experience.
- Excellent knowledge of technical accounting, statutory reporting and CIPFA guidance.
- Experience with Collection Fund accounting, VAT and year-end accounts.
- Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Professional accounting qualification (CCAB/CIPFA/ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or equivalent experience.
