Ward Manager – Acute Inpatient Mental Health

Location: Chelmsford, Essex

Salary: £47,300 – £53,700 (dependent on experience)

Hours: Full-Time | 37.5 hours per week

The Role:

As Ward Manager , you will take full clinical and operational leadership of a busy acute ward. You will be a visible, proactive role model for nursing staff, supporting a culture of safety, compassion, and clinical excellence. The position involves leading a team of nurses and support staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional leadership and daily clinical oversight to the ward team
  • Act as a senior clinical decision-maker and mentor to staff

Requirements:

  • NMC-registered nurse (Mental Health)
  • Minimum of 3 years\’ experience in a senior nursing capacity (e.g., Charge Nurse, Deputy Ward Manager)
  • Proven track record of effective clinical leadership within mental health settings
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational, and decision-making skills
  • Able to lead by example and build cohesive, high-performing teams

Desirable:

  • Experience within adult acute inpatient mental health services
  • Familiarity with CQC standards and clinical governance procedures
  • Experience supporting service users with high acuity or complex presentations
