ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer to join a large-scale Edge Platform engineering team in London.
You will work on mission-critical platform services supporting configuration management, push notifications, observability, intelligent traffic routing, automated failover and AI-enabled platform capabilities.
This is a senior engineering role suited to someone who can independently own medium-complexity features, develop high-quality production code and contribute to the reliability and operational excellence of large-scale distributed systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, build and extend features for a remote MCP platform
- Develop highly available backend and distributed services
- Build production solutions using Java, Kotlin and Type Script
- Work with AWS services including EC2, NLB, Elasti Cache, Lambda and Dynamo DB
- Develop and maintain infrastructure using AWS CDK
- Support high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems
- Work with DNS, HTTP/TLS and load-balancing technologies
- Troubleshoot application, infrastructure and networking issues
- Support intelligent traffic routing and automated failover
- Maintain monitoring, dashboards, alarms and runbooks
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident response
- Support CI/CD and deployment automation
- Conduct code reviews, testing, refactoring and performance optimisation
- Independently own and deliver technical features with minimal guidance
- Use Generative AI and coding agents effectively within engineering workflows
- KEY EXPERIENCE
- Professional software development engineering experience
- Strong Java, Kotlin and Type Script skills
- Experience building backend services or distributed systems
- Hands-on AWS experience including EC2, NLB, Elasti Cache, Lambda and Dynamo DB
- Infrastructure as Code experience, ideally AWS CDK
- Strong understanding of DNS, HTTP/TLS and load balancing
- Production software operations experience including monitoring, alarming and incident response
- Strong Linux/UNIX and shell scripting skills
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
- High-throughput, low-latency systems
- Concurrency, profiling and performance optimisation
